If you’ve been putting off getting a haircut, or if you like a bargain, Monday, Oct. 6 is the perfect day for you to get shorn.
“Hospice Huntsville is holding their first Haircuts for Hospice Day,” said Sally Brady, co-chair of the fundraising committee for Hospice Huntsville. “People can get a wash and a cut for $20, which is a great price,” added co-chair Sandy Calvert.
A registered not-for-profit charity, Hospice Huntsville provides support to individuals in the Huntsville area who are facing end-of-life situations. This support is also extended to their families and caregivers and is provided in the setting of their choice. All services of Hospice Huntsville are offered at no cost, which means fundraising is crucial to the ongoing success of the organization. Numerous Huntsville salons were approached to participate in this new fundraiser, and thus far three have come on board.
“It’s so great because these salons have really stepped up to help Hospice and are generously offering their skills, their time and their professional resources to help,” said Calvert.
On Oct. 6 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Trends Hair Studio on Main Street, Hair Quarters on Brunel Road and M & M Hairplace on Chaffey Street will be offering a shampoo and haircut for $20. All proceeds taken in will be donated to Hospice Huntsville.
At M & M Hairplace, joining in on this fundraiser was a simple decision for Bonnie Harris, who co-owns the salon with her husband Jeff.
“When Sandy asked me, I said, ‘I sure will be a part of it.’ We have used the services of hospice, as my father was in palliative care at Huntsville Hospital and my grandfather passed away at home from cancer,” said Harris. “This is a cause that touches my heart.”
Harris says thus far three stylists will be in at M & M Hairplace as of 9 a.m., with a fourth stylist still to confirm. They’ll be washing and cutting until 5 p.m.
